A few quick shots before the Sunday 1,100 began.  What is the Sunday 1,100 you ask?  Easy, the Indianapolis 500 (Indy Racing Series) and the Coke 600 (NASCAR Sprint Cup).  Got it?

MAY 26 2013 001aNikon D5000 with a Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD lens shot at F/5.6 and a 1/250 of a second shutter speed. ISO 500.  Focal length: 300mm (APS-C).

I have been trying to get a decent Cardinal shot for a while, and although not the best, this will do.  Helpful were the overcast skies, which gave me soft light to work with.  I had to bump up the ISO however, but overall, the D5K did just fine.  I like the color contrast between the red and green (that’s what originally caught my eye).

One of Nancy’s tulips.  This was actually rather difficult to shoot, because it was so windy.  However, the aforementioned soft light helped out.  Nice colors, and the Tamron worked well; it had to…I was too lazy to get my other camera/lenses.

Today’s music CD is 1985’s “Beat the System”  by the Christian Rock band Petra. “Voice in the Wind” , “Speak to the Sky”  and “Adonai” are my favorites.  Heavy keyboards and the amazing vocal range by Greg X Volz (that’s his REAL name!) power these tracks.

Another challenging shot.  The trick here is trying to get all the highlights of the tulip.  I didn’t quite do that; although I think I would have needed the better dynamic range of a Full Frame camera to do the job.  Still, the D5K did just fine for a lot less $$$.

I gotta run…the cars are lining up at Indy!
