April 30, 2013 Bart the Cat! et. al.

Bart the Cat is THE coolest cat on the planet.  That doesn’t mean other cats are not cool, or even “super cool”, it just means Bart is #1.  Someone has to be #1, and Bart  fills that role.

I spent the evening at Bob and Catherine Adams, and brought along my Canon Pocketshot in case I was motivated to take images of Bart, and their 4 other cats.  Here are the results.

Here he is!  Bart the Cat!  Bart was a stray that Bob and Catherine took in a few years ago.  At first they thought he might have been a wild cat, but Bart soon showed them he was quite sophisticated.  He now rules the house!

Simon, at the dinner table, and showing me some attention as Catherine’s World Class lasagna is being served!  Catherine is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, works at a local clinic, and contributed to a book that was published on healing pets.

Back to Bart, and he wants out.  His mischievous side is clearly showing!

Your music CD for this page is “Twice the Speed of Life”  by Sugarland; especially the title track (but the entire CD is solid…the “skip” button is not needed).

APR 30 2013 004Canon Powershot A4000 IS shot at a 1/2 of a second shutter speed.  ISO 100.

Here is Spencer during his late afternoon nap.  I didn’t want the harsh light of the flash (used on the previous 2 shots) so I used a mini-tripod Bob had and shot at 1/2 of a second.  The focus is a little soft, but that adds to the mood of the image.

Bart the Hovercraft.  He has personality up the wazoo.  Right now he is quite content to be outside.  Black cats (and dogs) are difficult to photograph, and Bart is no exception.  The biggest issue here was his coat showed many white specs, so I had to spend some quality Photoshop time cleaning him up.

APR 30 2013 006Canon Powershot A4000 IS shot at a 1/400 of a second shutter speed.  ISO 100.

Now awake, Spencer is prowling the backyard.  You can see Bob and Catherine on the steps in the background…who says I don’t have any humans on my web site?

I tried to frame Bart with the branches but not all of them were in focus.  Oh well.  I like the color of the blue planter next to him, so here it is.

Spencer again.  He is a lot easier to take images of than Bart (and rates a “super cool” on the Cat Scale).  I tried for some photos of Charlie and Theo, but they just didn’t turn out.

A final shot of Bart.  He really is quite a warm, and friendly cat, once he accepts you.  It appears he’s thinking about going over the wall (climbing the fence and escaping), which he often does.  He usually returns on command, however.  Oh, Bart!

It was a real challenge photographing the cats with just a Pocketshot.  Those type of cameras simply do not react quickly enough.  I ended up taking 357 images…235 were deleted immediately, and of the remaining 122, the 9 you see here were web-worthy.  Take 357…get 9…yeah, that’s about right…
